The Quimby Family Collision History

Gordy Quimby's Legacy

Over 60 years ago, Gordy Quimby started a body shop right off of 1st Ave in Kasson, MN, just 12 miles outside of Rochester.

He spent 46 years working on the craft, developing his business, and creating a solid reputation in the SE Minnesota community.

His son, Dustin Quimby, was often at the shop learning how to work on cars and more importantly--how to build a business and local reputation by treating others as you would want to be treated.

In 2008, after successful career of fixing cars and serving neighbors, Gordy sold his shop to new owners and retired, letting the new owners keep the name, Gordy's Body Shop.

For a few years, the Quimby family took a pause from collision repair.

Early Years - Dustin Quimby

Gordy's son, Dustin Quimby, didn't initially work in collision repair, but he was never far from it.

Dustin gained experience working in the insurance industry, in automotive sales, and then eventually made his way into dealership service departments, and eventually, a dealership body shop.

Dustin ran the Lupient Buick GMC Collision Center, which then became Buick GMC of Rochester Collision Center. Paired with resources of a larger automotive group and guidance and support from General Motors franchise governance, Dustin became one of the leading experts in collision repair in Southeast Minnesota.

Stevens Collision Center

While Gordy's Body Shop was operating in Kasson, another family-owned body shop was also earning a reputation for quality work and community-oriented service.

Stevens Collision Center was just a mile away from Gordy's off of the frontage road on Highway 14 in a small business park that includes Cleary Building Corp, Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, Leth Electric, Bigelow Painting, Kasson Storage, and Hoff Auto Repair.

The Start of

Quimbys Collision Center

In early 2023, Dustin Quimby say down with Mark Stevens and had a conversation about the future of Stevens Collision Center. Mark was ready to retire and his son, Dustin Stevens (the other Dustin in this story), was interested in continuing to work with the shop.

A few months later, in November 2023, Stevens Collision was sold to Dustin Quimby and renamed Quimbys Collision Center.

The Stevens Collision staff, including Dustin Stevens, were all in on merging the two family-owned collision brands, Stevens and Quimbys, under Dustin Quimby's leadership.

Since 2023, Quimbys Collision Center has delivered industry-leading repair work paired with the family-oriented, local body shop service that both the Stevens and Quimby families had developed.

The only challenge is when customers get confused that Gordy's' Body Shop isn't owned by Gordy Quimby anymore, but that his son, Dustin Quimby, is right across the highway, working with Dustin Stevens of Stevens Collision Center, at the new Quimby's Collision Center.

It just takes one collision repair with Quimbys to realize that the legacy the best body shops in the Rochester area lives on.

What makes Quimbys one of the best body shops around?

Quimbys commitment to excellence, technology, safety, and repair compliance ensure that the shop continues to exceed the highest standards of auto body work.

The customer service commitment makes sure that not only is your vehicle repaired correctly, but you will have a great experience working with Quimbys and your insurance provider (as far as it depends on us) to get back on the road.

Quimbys Collision also prioritizes the needs of the customer over the needs of the insurance provider. While some body shops are "preferred shops" for various insurance companies, this can sometimes lead to conflicts of interest when insurance is pushing the shop to follow it's own repair guides and budget--even though most insurance companies almost never inspect damaged vehicles firsthand anymore. Quimbys makes sure that the customer gets what they need, making sure insurance covers all the necessary repairs to bring the vehicle back to pre-accident condition.
